One of my favorite yoga studios in town, Open Yoga Studio, just started a new class called Story Time Yoga. It's the first class of it's kind, that I know of, here in Pueblo that focuses on toddlers and their parents. Julie, one of the studio's owners, leads the class with her 3 year old son, Henry. I know these types of classes are all the rage in bigger cities along the front range, but it took awhile for the wave to make it's way down south. So of course, I had to sign Annie and myself up for the first series this Feburary.
Today we happily put on some comfy clothing, packed our yoga mats and water bottles and headed out the door. After seeing her older brother and sister go off to school and other activities, it was special for Annie to have her own mama time, as well as, her own class.
Good to see other moms venturing out with their little ones on this cold and snowy day.
Stretching & balance!
Circle time with friends!
I found this class to be the perfect fit for Annie and me. Insturctor and mother, Julie believes yoga is great for little ones because "it's a nice balance between relaxation, movement, getting their energy out and having fun and playing together." Julie is an easy going teacher, incorporating lots of different yoga poses through animal characterization and keeping the kids moving from their mats to circle time. At the end, she wraps up the class with a book and then quiet time on the mat. I love teaching children how to slow down and be still for a few minutes. We'll be back at the class next week, with our mats, and hopefully, try and pull them out during the week to practcie yoga at home.
